i want this wedding. except instead of in pennsylvania..in the berkshires. it's casual but still very classy and elegant. i love love love the lawn games and the old brick house and the informal flower arrangements. plus the little jars of jam as gifts for the guests its adorable, and the vintage bicycles make such a neat backdrop. ahh amazing.  ps this photographer, kate headley is amazing. check out her site. kate headley photography

oooh goodness! new awesome blog to check out. many of you have already seen it, but i just discovered it today. it's called the selby and is essentially an archive of photographs taken by todd selby of unique people  hanging out in their fabulous living spaces. i wish i was cool enough to be photographed by him. but i have feeling my photograph would end up with me sitting on llbean esque green couch with a bug eyed cat in my lap, wearing my glasses. now that would be a picture. mmmmm. i think what i love about this series the most is that todd selby captures people happily existing in the personal space that they have created for themselves. it's such a direct representation of who the person is but in such a subtle way. enjoy. and please keep that mental image of me and jack in your back pocket. xoxo.

both sides now

so..i think cameras are cool. i think photography is cool. but..i always look at what the camera captures, not the camera itself. though my canon power shot is nothing to admire, there are some cameras out there that, in my opinion, are just as cool to look at instead of through. here are some of my favorites.

mad men

so i've recently started watching the AMC series "mad men". i am completely addicted to say the least. i've only watched 5 episodes from the 1st season, but i'm already hooked. my favorite character is definitely betsy draper played by the totally gorgeous january jones. her husband, don draper (jon hamm) is also an incredibly attractive human being. annie leibovitz recently photographed them for vanity fair and needless to say, she has captured their beauty stunningly and also the complicated psyche of the characters.

political portraiture

after the sad passing of ted kennedy last night, i started thinking about the kennedy family and their photographic history(particularly this image). i would say that the kennedys were the first "first family" that the public was fascinated by. today, we don't think of this as uncommon. we have read the articles covering the obama's vacation plans; including mr. president's beach reads and culinary choices on the island. we even know the name of the obama family dog and that mrs. obama prefers j.crew to expensive designers. at the beginning of president obama's presidency, several pictures were released to satisfy public curiosity about the family. this mimics what occurred in 1961, when jackie, caroline and john kennedy jr. sat for richard avedon. the pictures that developed were the beginning of the documentation of the kennedy family, so many of the images, that even i, having been born 23 years after JFK's assasination, can recall. so, forgive my rambling, but my real point is to call attention to the political portraiture of richard avedon. currently, there is a show at the international center for photography highlighting his fashion photography, however, i find his haunting images of presidents, past and present, slightly more interesting.

model as muse

so living in new york and having been an art history major in college, you would think i make regular trips to the met. though i hate to admit it, i don't go often at all! but this show called model as muse is on special exhibition until august. which means i am going to have to pick a day soon to get over there! model as muse is an exhibition of haute couture and fashion photography. from 1947-1997. the actual clothing doesn't interest me as much as the photographs, but surely everything on display is beautiful. here are some of the photos. my favorite is the first one, of linda evangelista in 1991. how absolutely gorgeous is this picture?
