i'm going on my first vacation in a year and i can't wait! i'm leaving the dark gloomy-ness that has been new york city for the past month and i'm heading up to maine for ten days! i cannot wait to not hear traffic, garbage trucks, screaming children. i want to hear silence, some loons and maybe a fan blowing cool air in through a window. not much else. i'm flying from jfk on thursday, to portland, where i'll be picked up by a and m, and we'll drive to a's lake cabin about 45 minutes away. we grew up going there every summer, where we spent days exploring, kayaking and laying out on the dock. it was heaven. i hope to do just that when we're there. i haven't been since i was 18 (i'm now 23) so it's been quite a while, however, i imagine it's almost the same. that's the great thing about small towns, not much ever changes. and i love it that way. i fully plan on cuddling up in sweatshirts and drinking coffee on the porch overlooking the lake in the morning..and taking beers out to the dock in the evenings (this being the first time i've been there when i was old enough to drink). i'm going with my two best friends from childhood, so that makes it really special too. then on the second half of my journey, i'll head to another small town in maine (closer to portland) where my boyfriend grew up. this town is truly fantastic also! it's tiny, with a few stores, but lots of classic new england clapboard homes and big white churches. it smells like lilacs and i love it. there, i hope to play lawn games with t's family, go for hikes and bike rides, barbecue a little, and hopefully cuddle with some doggies. pure heaven. updates to come..
